? ?2024年5月24日（金）にWilliam Vogler氏から、自身の作品である『Dancing Cubes』を香川大学に寄贈いただきました。同氏からは2022年にも作品を寄贈いただいており、今回で2回目の寄贈となります。
? ?William Vogler氏は、カリフォルニア出身で、2016年まで香川大学で英語の非常勤講師を永年勤めてこられ、香川大学にも非常に縁のある方という事で、今回のお話をいただきました。同氏は、アメリカで陶芸を専門に学んだ後、若くして来日し、その後約50年に渡り、日本陶芸の心と技術を学びながら、アメリカ陶芸の持つ創造性を基礎とした、自由な表現の作品を数多く発表されています。
? ?今回寄贈いただいた作品も、見た目は彫刻作品のようですが、氏の専門である陶芸作品となっています。今回の作品は、立方体がくるくる回りながら積み重なる様が、Dancing Cubes という作品名のとおり、まるで踊っているようにも見えますが、その踊る様の一瞬を切り取った中に、ユーモラスさと静謐を感じられることと思います。作品は、幸町北キャンパスの図書館北側にあるふれあい広場に、前回、同氏から寄贈いただいた作品『Timeless Cubes』と一緒に展示していますので、是非、実物をご自分の目で確認してみてください。

On Friday, May 24, 2024, Mr. William Vogler generously donated his work "Dancing Cubes" to Kagawa University. This marks his second donation to our university, following his initial contribution in 2022.
Mr. Vogler, originally from California, served as an adjunct English instructor at Kagawa University until 2016, establishing a significant connection with our university. After studying ceramics in the United States, he moved to Japan at a young age and has spent nearly 50 years mastering Japanese ceramic techniques while incorporating the creative spirit of American ceramics into his work.
The newly donated piece, though resembling a sculpture, is indeed a ceramic artwork, reflecting Mr. Vogler's expertise in the field. The "Dancing Cubes" piece captures the whimsical and serene moment of stacked cubes seemingly dancing, in line with its name.
This piece is exhibited alongside his previous donation, "Timeless Cubes," at the Interaction Plaza on the north side of the library at Saiwai-cho North Campus. We encourage you to visit and experience these remarkable works in person.
